Picking order items

Picking order items

Picking is the process of collecting items from their storage location to fulfil the orders.

Eshopbox allows you multiple ways to pick orders, depending on the picking method selected in the self fulfilment settings. The available picking methods are:

  1. Skip picking: With this method, you can skip the picking step in Eshopbox and directly generate shipping labels. You have the flexibility to pick items according to your preferences. Even if you choose to skip the picking step, you can still print a picklist for a list of shipments.

  2. Device based picking: This method requires you to scan and pick each item individually using a handheld device. To do so, you need to create a picklist for picking the items from the suggested shelf. This option ensures greater accuracy in managing inventory as it requires scanning each item and its corresponding shelf.

In this article, you will learn how to pick order items using Device based picking

To pick order items you need to:

  • Create a picklist.

  • Pick items from their designated locations.

Steps to create a picklist

A picklist is created to:

  • Keep the picking process organized by assigning a set of orders to each picker

  • Group the items that need to be processed together

  • Define an optimum picking route for each picker by suggesting the location of items to be picked

To create a picklist at your fulfilment location, you need to follow the below steps:

  • Step 1: Login into your Eshopbox workspace.

  • Step 2: From the header, navigate to Orders > Process Order.

  • You will be redirected to the Shipments page. All your new shipments will be visible in the Create Picklist view.

  • Step 3: Select the shipments for which you want to create a picklist. You can select multiple shipments to create a picklist. You can filter the shipments to be assigned to a picklist based on various filters, for example:

    • Expected fulfilment by: You can use this filter to create a picklist of items for which the fulfilment needs to be done before a particular time. For example, you can filter the shipments that need to be fulfilled before 12 PM on January 3. This method helps to pick the items that are going to breach first.

    • Sales channel: You can select this filter to create a picklist of all the shipments received from a specific sales channel.

    • Zone: You can select this filter to create a picklist for all the items that belong to a specific zone.

Once you apply the filters, you can select multiple or all shipments on the page and click on Create Picklist.

Note: You can create a single picklist for multiple orders.

  • Step 4: Your picklist will be created and a Picklist ID will be generated.

  • Step 5: Once the picklist is created for the selected shipments, the shipment will move to picking status.

  • Once the picklist is created, you need to pick the items.

Steps to pick items

Picking refers to the process of collecting items from the storage location as per the picklist.

Before you start, make sure:

  • The picklist is created and the picklist ID is handy with you.

  • You have a tote handy with you to keep the picked items.

  • You have a handheld device with a good internet connection in the picking area

To pick items at your fulfilment location, you need to follow the below steps:

  • Step 1: Login into your workspace using a handheld device, navigate to the sidebar and select Process Orders > Pick and pack

  • You will be redirected to the picklists page.

  • Step 2: Click on Pick against the picklist you wish to process.

Note: The latest created picklist will be shown on the top. You can also know the picklist ID for any shipment by navigating to the In Picking view on the shipments page.

  • Step 3: Click on Add to start picking the items.

  • You will be redirected to the Pick Items page.

  • Step 4: To pick items, you'll get the suggested shelf from which these item needs to be picked. This list will be sorted in ascending order as per the shelf ID so that you can follow the picking route as per the shelf’s sequence. Now, scan the shelf from which you want to pick the items and click Next.

Note: To ensure you get an optimal picking route, you need to ensure the shelf labels are pasted on the physical shelf in the proper sequence. Learn here how to add a shelf.

  • Step 5: Pick the item, scan its scannable identifier/item barcode* and press enter to confirm the picking. Similarly, pick and scan all the remaining items to be picked from the shelf. Once you have scanned all the items for the particular shelf, click on Submit to proceed to the next shelf.

    Note:

    • For SKU-level traceability, you need to scan the scannable identifier.

    • For item-level traceability, you need to scan the item barcode.

  • Added items will be visible in the selected section. You can click on the selected to view or remove any picked items from the shelf. Once you submit a shelf, you will not be able to remove any of its selected items.

Note: In case you do not find an item on the suggested shelf, then you need to mark that item as not found. Learn here how to mark an item as not found.

  • Step 6: Repeat steps 4 and 5 to pick items from all the other shelves in the picklist and click on Complete.

  • Step 7: Verify the list of items picked from the shelf and click on Next.

Note: In case you need to place items of a picklist in multiple totes, you need to scan all the totes in which you are keeping the items. This is required so that all the totes are mapped with the particular picklist and at the time of packing, you will be able to search using any of the totes and you can also know which other totes are mapped to the same picklist.

  • Step 8: Scan the Tote code from the tote label in which you want to place the picked items and click on Submit.

Note: For picked items, you can only select the tote assigned for Sellable items. Learn here how to add a tote.

Once all the items on the picklist are picked, you need to take them to the packing staging area for packing. Learn here how to pack orders

Step 9: Scan the Staging area code where you want to keep the tote containing picked items.

Scenario 1: Item not found on the suggested shelf

After choosing a shelf for picking, you need to make sure to pick all the items from the particular shelf. In case you are unable to find any items on the suggested shelf, you will get a step to mark these items as not found on the shelf.

  • Step 1: You will see a list of items that you have not picked from that shelf along with the total available inventory details for those specific items on the shelf.

  • Verify the details and click on Submit to mark the items as not found.

  • When a product is marked not found on the shelf, it will mark “all the pending to pick B2C and B2B order items for this product with this suggested shelf” as not found.

  • Also when the product is marked not found on a shelf, then the system will search for the next available shelf for all not found order items and do the following:

    • If the inventory is available on any other shelf, the system will automatically update the inventory location and suggest the next recommended shelf to pick the items. You will be able to pick the item from the next suggested shelf in the same picklist.

    • If the inventory is not available on any other shelf, then the shipment will be cancelled and the order will be shown as unfulfillable on the All Orders page with its unfulfillable reason as “Item not found at location”. Once the inventory is added back, the system will automatically create a new shipment so that it can be fulfilled.

Impact on inventory when an item is marked not found

When you mark any item as not found, the entire available quantity of that product in the particular shelf is reduced to 0 and added to the not found quantity in the inventory. This is done so that you do not receive any further orders for the not-found inventory and avoid order cancellation. In case the inventory is found later, you can mark the inventory as found.
