Accurate inventory management requires ensuring that stock received at the fulfilment centre matches what was dispatched. Sometimes, consignments may show shortages, where the received quantity is less than the recorded amount. It's crucial to identify these shortages as soon as a consignment is marked complete to enable timely corrective action and prevent inventory discrepancies.
Shortages can occur due to several reasons:
Items missed during dispatch from the vendor's or seller's warehouse
Damaged units during transit are not added to the inventory
Miscounts or packing errors during shipment
Items lost or misplaced in transit
