Split and merge an order

Split and merge an order

When an order is created on the Eshopbox workspace, it is automatically allocated to the nearest fulfilment location having sellable inventory, and a shipment is created for the same.

On the basis of the inventory available at the fulfilment locations, Eshopbox splits the order into one or more shipments.

Note: If the inventory for an order item is unavailable then the created shipment will be marked as Unfulfillable.

There can be certain instances when you want to manually split or merge an order:

  • Split and ship partial orders: You can split and ship orders based on product availability. This allows for faster deliveries to customers as different products can be shipped from different warehouses.

  • Manual override for order splitting and merging: You can manually override automated order routing and splitting rules. This provides flexibility in managing orders for various reasons, such as when you don't have enough packaging material to pack all items together.

  • Merge split orders to save on shipping costs: Merge split orders to optimize shipping costs. For example, if an order was split based on inventory availability, but you want to combine it later to save on shipping expenses, now you can merge the order as well.

Note: The Expected RTS date and time will be recalculated if you split or merge an order.

You cannot split or merge a marketplace order or an order which is in Ready to Ship, Cancelled or On the Way status.

Also, in the case of a virtual kit, a single-item order or an order having pre-packaged and ready-to-ship products, order splitting or merging is not applicable.

In this article, you will learn how to split or merge your orders manually on your Eshopbox workspace.

Steps to split or merge your order manually

To change the fulfilment location for an order, you need to follow the below-given steps:

  • Step 1: Log in to your Eshopbox workspace.

  • Step 2: From the header, navigate to Orders > All Orders.

  • Step 3: You will be redirected to the Orders page. Search the order which you want to split.

  • Step 4: Click on Take Action. Select Split Orders from the dropdown.

  • Step 5: You will be redirected to the Split order page. The items of the order that are available for splitting will be displayed.

  • Step 6: Depending on how you want to split or combine the order, you need to select the package for the selected items.

For example, if there are 4 items in an order and you want to ship it out as a single shipment, you need to select Package 1 for all the order items.

Similarly, if you want to ship out this order as two different shipments, then you need to select the order items that you want to ship out in both shipments.

  • Step 7: Once done, click on Split order.

The order will be divided into multiple shipments as selected. You can track the same under the Activities tab for that order.

FAQ

  1. Can I merge an order having multiple items into a single shipment?

You can consolidate items from various shipments of an order into a single package. This is useful if you want to ship out all the items of an order in a single package.

For example, there is an order A with three items that need to be delivered in Delhi. Eshopbox splits the order into shipments and assigns it to the nearest fulfilment location based on inventory availability.

If you prefer to ship the entire order from a single fulfilment location, then you need to select the same package for all the order items while merging the order.

Also, you need to ensure that the inventory for the unavailable order items is fulfilled at the selected fulfilment location so that the order can be processed. The merged order will remain as Unfulfillable in case the inventory for any order item is unavailable at the selected location.
