Introduction to products

Introduction to products

A product is an item that you wish to sell. You can create two types of products:

  • Product: A single item that you wish to sell.

  • Virtual kit: A combination of two or more products.

In this article, you will learn about the types of products and also about inventory & its flow.

Product

A product is a single item that you wish to sell. You can add a product on Eshopbox by entering all the product details. If your product has multiple variants such as size, colour etc., then you need to create multiple products for each variant.

For example, suppose you wish to sell a shirt that has 3 size variants-small, medium and large. In this case, you will have to create 3 products for each of the defined variants. Learn how to create products in Eshopbox.

Virtual kit

A virtual kit is a combination of two or more products. To create a virtual kit, different products are picked from their respective storage locations in the fulfilment centre and then packed as a single unit during order processing. For example, Eshopbox stores products A and B as separate SKUs. You create product C as a virtual kit combining certain units of products A and B. Eshopbox then packs products A & B together to process the order for product C and ship it to the customer. Learn how to create a virtual kit in Eshopbox.

Notes

If in case any of the products are unavailable in the Eshopbox fulfilment centre, you won't be able to process the virtual kit. Also, if a component of the virtual kit is out of stock, the virtual kit will show as out of stock.

Inventory

Inventory is the quantity of a product that is available in Eshopbox. You can easily keep track of your inventory from the Eshopbox workspace. Inventory gets updated in the following events.

  • A consignment is received.

  • A B2B order is packed.

  • An order is shipped.

  • A return is received.

Notes

Inventory is available only for products in Eshopbox. For virtual kits, you’ll always see zero inventory. To check the inventory of the virtual kit, you can check the inventory of its components. In case, any of the components are out of stock, the virtual kit will also become out of stock.

Inventory workflow

Following is a flowchart describing the flow of inventory in Eshopbox.

Inventory Status

  1. Sellable: It refers to those products whose inventory is available for sale.

  2. Non-sellable: It refers to those products whose inventory is unavailable for sale.

  3. Inward in progress: It refers to those products which are received at the Eshopbox fulfilment centre but are pending to be stocked.

  4. Outward in progress: It refers to the products whose inventory is allocated to an order or a recall consignment.

  5. Under investigation: It refers to the inventory that is currently under investigation due to unavailability during picking or cycle count at their designated storage location. It is calculated as the difference between the Not Found inventory and the Excess Found inventory.
